Christian Science

To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science.  – Mary Baker Eddy

In her writings Mary Baker Eddy, the Discover and Founder of Christian Science, often refers to her revelation as the “law” or “laws” of God exemplified most clearly and completely by Christ Jesus. That’s why I tend to think of Christian Science as not only a religion, but as the two words that best describe the presence and power of God, divine Love – a power that is available and appreciable to one and all regardless of their faith background.

The theology of Christian Science includes three basic ideas: the allness of God or good; the powerlessness of evil; and the innate wholeness of man (and woman) made in God’s, Spirit's, image and likeness. For Eddy, these truths became increasingly evident through her lifelong study of the Bible, her recovery through prayer alone of a life-threatening injury, and her ability to heal – and to teach others to heal – using this same prayer-based approach.

In 1875, Eddy wrote Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This book describes the fundamentals of Christian Science and presents what she understood to be the divine Comforter promised by Jesus. This Comforter – the “spirit of Truth and Love," as Eddy puts it – naturally and inevitably removes fear from one’s thought, resulting in moral, spiritual, and physical transformation.

I encourage you to pick up a copy of this book, to ponder what it has to say, and to let its healing and saving message fill your life with blessing.
